About Me
Hey friend, glad you could stop by!
My name is Kate. I’m a registered nurse as well as a freelance writer. I tend to choose professions that involve wearing comfy clothes at all times if you haven’t already noticed.ย
ย
I’ve been a registered nurse for over one year now, but in the medical field for 5 years. I worked as a CNA (certified nurses’ aid) for a few years on a medical-surgical floor, before heading off to nursing school.
I’ve been writing ever since I could hold a pencil and spell words. But as far as my professional work as a writer, that’s going on 5 years as well. As a human being, I’m 50% lover of all things health and medical. 50% aspiring author and lover of word-smithing.ย

Nurse Kate
There’s certainly more to me than nursing and writing. Allow me to paint a little picture, and fill in the gaps between the scrub wearing and the keyboard clacking.ย
The Outdoorsy Type
Ever since I moved to North Carolina, I can’t get enough of being out in nature. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of miles of hiking trails for me to explore here. I love the serenity of being out. in the middle of the woods completely surrounded by mountains, trees, and the wildlife that lives there. Maybe not the bears though…
Cat Mom
I have two wonderful fur babies, both of the feline variety. In the picture to the left, you will see my “office assistant” Spookie. She tries to help, she really does. My other kitty cat is named Chief. He’s a big boy and loves to sleep and eat. Though, he’s become more in touch with his inner kitten since we adopted his little sister here. I don’t know what I would have done without the company of these two on my days off, during the COVID lockdown we experienced in 2020.
Self-Proclaimed Bibliophile
I can still remember back when I was in 3rd and 4th grade. I’d have my current Harry Potter book with me and read it under the desk while the teacher was giving their lesson. At times they would need to come up to the desk and knock on it. to get my attention, I would be so absorbed into whatever I was reading. And yet, I was still a straight-A student. ๐
Nowadays, there are nights that I. goto to read before bed and can hardly make it through a page. Audio books have become my best friend. Although, I do still prefer old-fashioned reading over audio books any day.ย

Common Questions
Currently, I work on a medical-surgical floor that’s in the process of transitioning to a progressive care unit. When I began working on this floor it was a pulmonary floor, but of course, it transformed into a COVID unit as soon as the pandemic struck. So I guess you could say I’m a “what ever kind of nurse I need to be” nurse, at this point.ย
Do You Write About Anything Else?
I love to learn about new things, so I’m really always open to writing about almost any topic. Lifestyle, personal finance, fitness, pets and animals (I’ve done a lot of work in this niche specifically), and travel. These are just a handful of topics that interest me and I would be more than happy to create content for.ย
What’s You’re Favorite Topic to Write About?
Favorite…hmm….
I really do enjoy writing about health and wellness. Form the medical standpoint as well as holistic and personal health and wellness. On that same note, I of course love to write about all things nursing as well.ย
What’s Your Long Term Goal in Nursing?
Long term I would really like to get into a cardiac unit of some sort and work part time. With part time I could work 2 days a week and continue to keep up on my nursing skills.ย Allowing for more time to write and go on adventures with my family.ย
Do You Have Any Other Websites?
I sure do! My first ever website that I created about 6 years ago now. At the time, I had too many interested and wasn’t too sure how to narrow them down for the sake of a website. But it was still an amazing learning experience, to have created a website and curated tons of content for it. Some of which I’ve transferred over here to this website.ย
Which Job Do You Love More? Nursing or Writing?
That’s a definitely a trick question! I couldn’t honestly answer that because I can’t see my life without nursing or writing.ย
If You Could Specialize in Any Kind of Nursing What Would You Do?
I’ve had a love for cardiac nursing since before nursing school, so I do have my sights set on my hospital’s progressive care cardiac unit. However, if I had all the time and scholarships in the world, forensic nursing sounds like it would be an incredibly interesting career path.ย

Writing a book and having it published are on my to-do list over the next 5 years. Currently, I have too much on my plate to dedicate time to writing a book. (I’m getting married and building a house, all by the end of 2021).ย
