I swear, I say that every year though.
Being able to shop online has really expedited the whole shopping process in the past decade or so though. Amazon makes shopping for those special people in my life so much easier, with access to billions of gifts that are the perfect fit for my people’s unique hobbies, interests, and even careers.
Do you have a nurse or other form of healthcare hero in your life to shop for this holiday season and feel little lost for ideas? I got you! I’m compiled an awesome list of 12 great ideas when you’re Christmas shopping for a gift for a nurse in your life.
Compression Socks
Give the nurse in your life the gift of legs that aren’t incredibly painful after a 12-14 hour shift. Any nurse who has worked with out compression socks for a shift knows how big of a difference these can make.
There are even compression sock options for nurses who prefer to wear jogger style scrub pants and don’t want to have the sock showing above their shoe. I use these compression sleeves on the days I want to wear my joggers and can say they definitely work just as well as regular compression socks.
The Perfect Christmas Gift for Nurses: Pens
Any nurse will tell you, a great pen will make all the difference in how their day is going to go. Us nurses love a good and will lose it on the person who thinks they can steal our favorite pen, even if their name starts with “Dr.” Pens are just one of those supplies that we can’t go without, and some cheap ball point pen just won’t cut it.
Recently I discovered Frixon erasable pens, and my reporting taking game has changed for the better for sure. They make erasable highlighters too, which was also a game changer.
Report Sheet Notebook
Nurses rely on their “brain” to remind them what the plan of care is for their patients, what task is coming up next on their to do list, and other important bits of information about their assignment. Nurse brain notebooks come in handy big time once you find one that works for you.
Lunch Box
Having a good lunch box will make or break a lunch break. Many nurses prefer to make their own lunches, either to save money or eat health. Sometimes for both reasons. But having a lunch box that can fit the lunch, snacks, and a drink or two helps tremendously. Making a new lunch box great Christmas gifts for nurses.
Highlighters
More often than not, a nurse will find a use for highlighters even if they aren’t a tool they routinely use on their report sheets. There’s always discharge paperwork and other printed educational materials that need the key points highlighted for quick reading.
There are even erasable highlighters now too. I speak from my own experience as a nurse, when I say, erasable pens and highlighters have soothed my OCD soul at work.
Self-Care Christmas Gifts for Nurses: Bath and Shower Essentials
There’s nothing a nurse looks forward to more than their nightly bath or shower after an impossibly long 12 hour shift. Any nurse would appreciate a good back rest pillow for the bath, bath bombs, or shower steamers under the Christmas tree. Especially these bath bombs that are melatonin infused. Anything in teh realm of self-care makes amazing Christmas gifts for nurses.
Drink Cups
Coffee, aka nurse fuel, is another work essential for the busy nurse or health care worker. The nurse in your life will love you forever if you give them a cute cup for their coffee or other drink of choice for Christmas time. Stanley cups are the “in thing” in the healthcare work place, but there are so many other options that work and look just as good.
Cup Accessories
If the nurse in your life doesn’t already have a Stanley cup or one that’s similar for work, they will soon enough. Getting them a charm to help it stand out from the 800 other ones at their work will be much appreciated. That or a straw cover, because who wants their straw just sitting out in “hospital air” uncovered? Stumped on ideas for Christmas gifts for nurses? Nurses are constant dehydrated, so anything that supports them drinking more water is a great idea.
Stethoscope Accessories
Any nurse will tell you that you must protect your stethoscope with your life at work. Or else it will just up and walk away from you. By that, I mean a doctor will likely grab it and run off with it. That’s why it needs to either have you name on it with a stethoscope charm, sleeve with your name embroidered, or kept safe in a case. A nurse’s stethoscope is essential to their work, and must be cared for and protected at all costs. Anything that protects a nurses assets at work makes perfect Christmas gifts for nurses.
Massagers
Give a nurse a massage and they will love you for ever and ever. Any one of these massagers will become their best friend after work and on their days off. Nurses take a serious beating, either from physical strain of being on their feet all day long, or the emotional tole that wears our bodies down.
Coffee Makers
Not all nurses are coffee fanatics, but I will say that the odds are that 9/10 nurses you will encounter love their daily dose of coffee. Every nurse has a different coffee preference too. Some will strictly only drink iced coffee, some like hot or iced depending on the weather outside. And some are extra and would love a French press to make their daily coffee.
Coffee Accessories
I don’t care what anyone says, the mug or glass that you drink out of really makes a huge difference on how much you enjoy your drink. In the nursing profession, it really is the little things like that that can make or break your mood for the day. You definitely can’t go wrong adding a mug or glass to your shopping list as Christmas gifts for the nurses in your life.
