Hey friend! So Glad You Could Stop By!
My name is Kate. I’m a registered nurse as well as a freelance writer. I tend to choose professions that involve wearing comfy clothes at all times if you haven’t already noticed.
I’ve been a registered nurse for about 4 years (Yes, my career began with the pandemic), but in the medical field for 8 years. I worked as a CNA (certified nurses’ aid) for a few years on a medical-surgical floor, before heading off to nursing school.
I’ve been writing ever since I could hold a pencil and spell words. But as far as my professional work as a writer, that’s going on 5 years as well. As a human being, I’m 50% lover of all things health and medical. 50% aspiring author and lover of word-smithing.
A Little More About Me
There’s certainly more to me than nursing and writing. Allow me to paint a little picture, and fill in the gaps between the scrub wearing and the keyboard clacking.
The Outdoorsy Type
Ever since I moved to North Carolina, I can’t get enough of being out in nature. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of miles of hiking trails for me to explore here. I love the serenity of being out. in the middle of the woods completely surrounded by mountains, trees, and the wildlife that lives there. Maybe not the bears though…
Cat Mom
I have two wonderful fur babies, both of the feline variety. In the picture to the left, you will see my “office assistant” Spookie. She tries to help, she really does. My other kitty cat is named Chief. He’s a big boy and loves to sleep and eat. Though, he’s become more in touch with his inner kitten since we adopted his little sister here. I don’t know what I would have done without the company of these two on my days off, during the COVID lockdown we experienced in 2020.
Self-Proclaimed Bibliophile
I can still remember back when I was in 3rd and 4th grade. I’d have my current Harry Potter book with me and read it under the desk while the teacher was giving their lesson. At times they would need to come up to the desk and knock on it. to get my attention, I would be so absorbed into whatever I was reading.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Kind of Nurse are You?
I’m a Registered Nurse (RN). Currently, I work on a progressive coronary (cardiac) unit. I began my career on a pulmonary unit that then became the COVID unit not long after I began my nursing career. I worked there through the first 2 years of the pandemic then decided it was time for a change.
What Topics Do You Write About Outside of Health and Medical?
I love to learn about new things, so I’m really always open to writing about almost any topic. Lifestyle, personal finance, fitness, pets and animals (I’ve done a lot of work in this niche specifically), and travel. These are just a handful of topics that interest me and I would be more than happy to create content for.
Do You Have Any Other Websites?
I sure do! My first ever website that I created about 6 years ago now. At the time, I had too many interested and wasn’t too sure how to narrow them down for the sake of a website. But it was still an amazing learning experience, to have created a website and curated tons of content for it. Some of which I’ve transferred over here to this website.
What’s Your Longterm Goal in Nursing?
Original About Me FAQ Answer from 2021: “Long term I would really like to get into a cardiac unit of some sort and work part time. With part time I could work 2 days a week and continue to keep up on my nursing skills. Allowing for more time to write and go on adventures with my family.”
2024 Update: I currently work PRN on a cardiac unit and go on lots go adventures with my flexible work schedule!

Original 2020 Answer: “Not yet! 😉 Writing a book and having it published are on my to-do list over the next 5 years. Currently, I have too much on my plate to dedicate time to writing a book. (I’m getting married and building a house, all by the end of 2021). “

That’s a definitely a trick question! I couldn’t honestly answer that because I can’t see my life without nursing or writing.
